Dunes
The dunes of Jauá are part of the area of environmental protection of the Parque das Dunas de Abrantes and in them the sandboard is practiced. The sandboard is a sport that began in Florianópolis-SC (1986).
Very similar to the snowboard, the sport is practiced in dunes of sand, using a board that can vary of length between 3,93 feet to 5,57 feet, it made of wood or fiber. Its maneuvers are adaptations of maneuvers of another sports as surfing, skate and snowboard.
On that place, we can delight ourselves with the sunrise and sundown, with a panoramic view from the coast of Jauá. These dunes are considered as a leisure natural park, where happy children can run, jump and play, sliding on the sand. |

Handcraft
It is very present in the handcraft of Jaua the concern with the environment where the most of the material used is recyclable as the coconut shell products.
In the artisans' hands, the shell and the straw of the coconut become ornamental crafts and other utensils. The coconut is totally taken advantage of from the pulp to the shell. Some creativity is enough, because the raw material exists in abundance.
The work begins in a workshop obtained anywhere, with some perforations and cuts made with machines improvised in little time the coconut shell changes: they are souvenirs, keyrings, ashtrays, rafts and etc. Of the fiber of the straw of the coconut tree are made hats, fan, fishes and etc, besides the sculptures made in the own coconut shell.
